Topic 5 DQ 1 (Obj. 5.3)

Cognitive therapy focuses on the processing of information by humans. A doctor that uses cognitive therapy will assist the patient in evaluating the scenario and then streamline it to see why this happened. Afterward, the physician will educate them to change (Kazantzis et al., 2018) successfully. Behavioral therapy focuses on the treatment and management of human behavior, from bad ones to positive ones. The primary distinction between cognitive therapy and behavioral treatment is that cognitive treatment is designed to remove psychological discomfort, whereas behavioral therapy also aims to remove lousy behavior.

The cognitive therapies are used in managing and treating the patient’s emotional; and psychological problems, which may include anxiety, depression, and phobias which are assumed to result due to faulty perception and approaches to thinking which also result in problems in human conduct (Kazantzis et al., 2018). The behavioral therapies focus on improving the individual’s behavior to being more positive.

Therapists need to understand the difference between cognitive and behavioral therapies to address the problem from the stem (Kazantzis et al., 2018). Knowing the root cause of the problem, therapists can identify the most appropriate type of therapy for the client.

Topic 5 DQ 2 (Obj. 5.2)

WDEP is a Wubbolding method that helps individuals to meet their fundamental requirements. WDEP stands for wants, direction and action, self-evaluation, planning, and action (Wubbolding et al., 2017). in therapy sessions, individuals are urged to examine their needs based on the WDEP system. To apply the WDEP system, the client starts by defining their wants (W), examining their overall behavior through their feelings, effective self-talk, and actions (D).  Next is a searching and uncomfortable self-evaluation (E). The last step involves coming up with positive plans for improvement (P). The plans should be attainable and realistic for the client.  

The WDEP process aims to help the client and therapists achieve the intended results for the future. The process lays a guideline through which clients and therapists acknowledge the present problems and strive to achieve the client’s future wants (Wubbolding et al., 2017). By the process, both the client and therapists have a clear guideline on establishing the present problems and the preferred wants in the future for the client and developing a plan to achieve them.
