I selected a journal article by Nursing Research titled Future expectations, attitude towards violence, and bullying perpetration during early adolescence: A mediation evaluation. The article is authored by Sarah A. Stoddard, Jorge J. Valera, and Marc A. Zimmerman, associates of The University of Michigan (Stoddard et al., 2015). The selected article focuses on bullying, a social vice that has been in American learning institutions and one that has interfered with smooth learning for some students. The journal article focuses on two principle individual-level causatives of bullying by analyzing the relationship between the positive expectation of what the future holds, attitude related to violence, and the perpetration of physical and relational bullying committed by adolescents.

The comments by reviewers were very insightful and largely contributed to the difference between the first drafted manuscript and the last publishing. Most of the reviewers wanted the focus narrowed down to the middle school-aged adolescents. Also, there was an overall call to include more evidence-based material in the literature review and a widening of statistical evidence to show the rampancy of this social menace in the world as a whole. One reviewer also emphasized the need to accommodate cyber-bullying in the analysis as in this era of technology. It is a prevalent vice affecting people of all ages and statuses. One thing that surprised me about the reviewer’s comment was their specificity. I would have expected more general reviews, but they go into detail to help construct a detailed final report. One even noted that the participants’ gender was wanting, since more girls than boys responded, yet boys are associated more with bullying. There was an outstanding improvement in the final journal published compared to the initial draft. The number of referenced sources was longer to include more evidence-based information to build on the body. Demographic variables related to bullying were also included, and the scope narrowed down to focus on middle school-aged adults and encompassed cyberbullying.
